10 Tips for Planning Your Child's Birthday Party
Here at Smart Gift Solutions, we’ve put together a list for how to plan and host the perfect children’s party. It can be a daunting idea for any parent, especially if it’s the first time you’ve had to do it, so here are ten tips to making sure you’re well prepared for the fun!
1. The Venue
Where’s the perfect place to host a party for your son or daughter? You preferably want somewhere spacious, with plenty of kitchen and toilet access, which is close by to surrounding friends and family so everybody can easily attend. Make sure you book in advance, as local halls and event spaces can be booked up quickly – especially in the summer months. If your kids are slightly older, sport themed parties can be great places such as ice-skating, bowling or swimming.
2. Entertainer
Hiring an entertainer for a few hours at your children’s party can take the pressure off you for creating fun, as there are plenty of other things you may need to be attending to – such as getting the food prepared and making sure everyone is taking part and having a good time! Whether it’s a magician, professional balloon twister or face painter, the kids are bound to enjoy a break from running around and dancing by sitting down and focusing their attention on a great show. Make sure you go with good recommendations, and be sure there’s a backup plan if they don’t arrive!
3. Party Games
If you don’t fancy hiring an entertainer, as they can be quite costly for a small session, just made sure you have a list of party games to get the children having fun! From musical chairs to hide and seek, treasure hunts to sleeping lions, there’s endless ideas you can refer to, so you won’t be left searching for ideas on the spot. Remember to make sure the games involve everyone, boys and girls, so nobody feels left out. And the essential key to party game success is the games not lasting too long so they lose their attention span!
4. Theme
Whether it’s Disney princesses, Star Wars or Peppa Pig, it’s always a good idea to have a theme for your child’s birthday party. Picking something your son or daughter loves means you can focus on buying and putting together awesome decorations and making the place look fun and exciting. Adding to the theme with fancy dress is a great way to get kids using their imagination, and will make brilliant pictures for keepsake memories.
5. The Cake
The tip to an awesome birthday cake is something big and tasty that can easily be shared between guests without making a mess! A great idea is a cupcake tower, so kids can choose their very own sweet treat without the risk of anyone being left with a small slice.
6. Healthy Snacks
You don’t want to unload a tonne of unhealthy, sugar filled snacks onto a group of young children as mayhem is sure to occur. But you don’t want the risk of the little guests being uninterested in eating boring, healthy food from the party table. So, your best bet is to make the healthy snacks as enticing as possible, so they’ll definitely enjoy eating them. Great ways to do this is by cutting nibbles into appealing shapes or freezing fruit and yoghurt to make delicious ice cream! Stacking grapes and strawberries onto cocktail sticks makes bright and colour rainbow skewers they’ll definitely want more of.
7. Drinks
With all the activities children will be doing at your kid’s birthday, it’s important to keep them hydrated and refreshed. It can be difficult to get kids to drink such an unexciting drink as water, so create some water and fruit punches that look appealing to get them drinking! Big jugs filled with plenty of ice, sliced and diced fruit, and sparkling water look pretty and enticing, and won’t give your kids a crazy sugar high!
8. Photo Memories
A really fantastic idea is investing in a Polaroid camera (they don’t have to be expensive, there are affordable options – or borrow one from a friend) which you can take pictures with throughout the party and give copies to children. This is a great way to give the little guests instant, fantastic memories of the party!
9. Goodie Bags
Make sure you plan your goodie bags in advance because they’re an important part of a kid’s party! It’s something guests will remember your son or daughter’s celebration by, as a reminder of what an awesome time they had. It can seem stressful purchasing a selection of gifts for what could be a large number of guests - especially if their whole class is attending! – but you don’t have to spend a lot of cash on expensive gifts. You can keep the gift bags to an affordable price, as long as they’re cool and fun. If you’re stuck for ideas, you could always make sure the party bag fillers align with the theme.
10. Thank You Cards
Don’t forget to send thank you cards a few weeks after the party, to thank the kids for attending so they can be reminded of their amazing time and know what a pleasure they were to have. It’s great to make kids feel appreciated, especially if they bought some awesome gifts along. Once again, you could fit it with the theme, whatever it may be, to remind the kids of their experience and to create a nice keepsake.
