How to Pick the Perfect Secret Santa
We're speedily heading towards Christmas time, with only 3 weeks until the big day, and festive-shopping is in full swing! With the shops fully dressed in Christmas spirit, we turn our attention this week to Secret Santa gift ideas! Secret Santa is a popular trend in the UK, whether it's between beloved family members, friends or your favourite colleagues - it's always a fun and festive game to get everyone feeling happy in December! So, last week, we kindly asked you, via our Facebook page, for your best Secret Santa experiences, as we love to hear of funny or heartwarming gift memories!
The winning entry for the worst gift was from Melissa Middlemas, whose experience of Secret Santa wasn't too successful...
" I would say it wasn't the most memorable gift for the obvious reason,
I was given a game that I honestly never knew existed... toilet golf!
Yes, of all games I was given one for the toilet!
In all honesty, I have never used it... "
To avoid Melissa's shock and horror, resulting in yet another Christmas gift thrown into the back of a cupboard and completely forgotten, we've created a list of five top tips on how to choose the best Secret Santa gift!
1. Know Your Audience
2. Play by the Rules
3. Stick to the Budget
4. Don't Be Lazy!
5. Be Kind, It's Christmas...
We had so many stories last week and thoroughly enjoyed reading them all. We particularly loved one we received from Marilyn Farquharson -
"When I broke my shoulder last year I had not imagined how much it would turn my life upside down. Aside from months of pain and sleepless nights, I went from being an independent working woman, living in my own place to having to move back in with Mum and Dad, unable to work and needing assistance to wash, dress myself and do any number of day to day tasks that I had previously taken for granted. Although it sounds trivial though, one of my main disappointments was that I had been booked to go on a Christmas cruise which myself and mum had saved for for a long time. Although the doctors gave me the go ahead to still go I was devastated that all of my elegant outfits would be ruined by my accompanying hospital sling. That was before my mum's amazing neighbour heard of my plight and hand made me a beautiful black sequined sling to top my outfits off! I was the Belle of the Ball!"
So the biggest tip we think we can add to the above is... be thoughtful! You might have heard a colleague or loved one mention something they need or a hobby they have. Something related to that will guarantee you'll be talked about over the Christmas period for all the right reasons :)
