As arguably one of the most famous and popular Whisky brands in the world, we thought we would share a little blog post about the history of the internationally loved beverage!
The worldwide cult-like status of the famous American brand is because of the unique branding design, quirky advertising of the Old No.7 story and a mysterious creation story steeped in legendary tales deep from the heart of Lynchburg, Tennessee. So, what exactly are the facts surrounding this awesome beverage we’ve all come to love and admire?
1. Who was Jack Daniel? Founder of the Tennessee Whiskey in the late 1800s, he was the company’s first Master Distiller. Responsible for ensuring the beverage was created to the highest satisfaction, he rose the drink to fame in American culture and cultivated its unique taste! As of today, there have only been seven Master Distillers over a 150 year period… meaning they’ve each been very dedicated to their beloved whisky!
2. Jack Daniel died from blood poisoning… supposedly from kicking his own security safe in a fit of anger! Although many biographers report this story to be untrue, we like to think it adds a dramatic twist to his mysterious, abrupt end…
3. Many myths surround the meaning behind the ‘Old No. 7’ branding… but unfortunately the facts were lost many years ago and nobody is quite sure as to the reasoning behind the name! So, we’ll just have to stick to the myth that Jack Daniel was a notorious womaniser and had seven girlfriends…
4. Our favourite Jack Daniel’s Whiskey fact is you can’t purchase or sell the whisky in its home county! Known as a ‘Dry County’ in America, citizens of Moore County are unable to drink the beverage in the place its created… how bizarre!
5. If you were to purchase a barrel of the famous Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, available in the company’s ‘Buy the Barrel’ programme, you’d have to fork out $10,000! Gaining roughly 250 bottles of whisky and owning the very barrel it was matured in, it’s up to you to decide if the price is worth it...
6. There are many different types of Jack Daniel’s Whiskey, ranging from those with different maturing processes and those with, especially limited edition flavours. You can get yourself a delicious Tennessee Honey version, or an extra strong Gentleman Jack whiskey for an extra distilled smooth taste! Either way, it’s up to you how you fancy your whisky…
