Bring the Summer to You!
I think it's safe to say that nowhere in the UK has experienced any real Summer yet! It's definitely hard not to feel down about it, the important thing is to stay motivated and find other ways of enjoying the great outdoors no matter what the weather!
Good habits and daily rituals help to make us feel more positive and ready to face anything so here's our Top 6 Hacks to help make you feel motivated...
Honey and lemon -
Drinking a cup of warm honey and lemon every morning can have some incredible health benefits, and for such a simple drink to make, there’s no excuse not to have your fix every morning before you begin your day! The beverage can aid digestion and reduce constipation, helping your stomach bacteria to be processed correctly. The lemon juice will help you with weight loss, by providing you with a high source of fibre that keeps you feeling full for longer. You’ll no longer be craving a mid-morning snack and can automatically count back on unnecessary calories. The honey aspect of the drink recipe also enables you to feel energetic, giving you a much-needed boost to begin your day. Unlike the sugar we pack our tea with, honey is a natural sourced ingredient which provides you with energy without being detrimental to your health. Alongside aiding indigestion problems and curing both bloating and flu symptoms, honey and lemon could be the cure to overcoming your coffee addiction. The UK nation is hooked on our morning cuppa, racing to the kitchen or our nearest coffee shop to fill up on caffeine. But we’re all aware of the health risks of one too many coffees… Replacing a cup of your favourite blended beans with honey and lemon means you reduce negative side effects such as induced heart rate and digestive issues. Although you may be drinking coffee to reduce stress and anxiety, relying on your caffeine to kick-start your day, it can be having the opposite effect.
Healthy breakfast -
It’s an age old saying that breakfast is simply the most important meal of the day, and although we may be sick of hearing it, it is undeniably true. It can’t be avoided that waking up earlier to treat yourself to a healthy breakfast will leave you feel rejuvenated, energetic and prepared to start your day with a smile. Beginning your day on an empty stomach will automatically leave you feeling grumpy and agitated, and chances are you won’t be able to concentrate to the best of your ability to daily tasks until you satisfy the growling stomach. Save yourself the hassle by waking up earlier and dedicating a small amount of your day to eating something healthy and nutritious. You’ll be able to put more energy into your day with a full stomach of protein and fibre. There’s an endless selection of breakfast options to indulge in, from avocado on toast, a lean English breakfast or a bowl of delicious granola; it doesn’t matter as long as it’s good for you. Even if you don’t have time to prepare, you can put together quick and easy recipes that require little effort or money – such as natural Greek yoghurt with fruit or porridge.
Exercise -
Alongside a healthy breakfast, exercise in the morning is a brilliant way to prepare you for the day by getting your body into action. Getting up earlier, and pushing yourself into creating a routine centered on becoming more active will aid many areas of your life. Not only will you lose weight and create a positive body image you can be proud of, but you’ll reap other benefits too. As we know, the chemical release of endorphins occurs as you exercise, which trigger a positive feeling in your brain that creates happiness! By waking up and activating your mind into a positive state of happiness and excitement, your perspective on the day will always be a good one. You can trust, although it may be difficult to begin with, that exercise will only bring progressive results to your life. You don’t even have to invest in spending excess money on fitness supplies, as going for a jog round your local park is free!
To-Do List -
A brilliant way to wake up your mind is by routinely checking a to-do list, making sure you’re up to date and on track with your goals and aspirations. Whether it’s making sure you book an appointment, place an order or meet up with friends and family, keeping a up-to-date to-do list will help ensure you feel active and on top of your life. If we feel we might be forgetting something, or can’t quite remember important dates and events we have planned, our stress levels can rise. Simply prevent this unnecessary anxiety from building by checking and adding to your list each morning before you get up. Having it on the bed side table means you’ll always remember to check what you planned each week, without worrying about missing out on something! You’re sure to feel excited to start the day by having a perfectly planned agenda. Invest a new notebook and start being in charge of your life in the simplest way!
Take a bath -
Light some candles and listen to your favorite playlist while you take a bath. If you’re feeling a little adventurous and want to plan ahead for this, visit your local pharmacy and purchase some essential oils. Clary Sage is great for clearing the mind and making you feel brighter. Use scented bath salts to further enhance your relaxation and feeling of well being. Try to avoid using artificial fragrances and perfume as they may cause irritation. Cut up some cucumber slices, and prepare to feel completely relaxed!
Tidy up some space -
This is not to say you need to organise your entire house, but instead choose a small area and focus on making it as neat and accessible as possible. This could be a drawer of papers or letter rack that's become overloaded. Or maybe a jewellery box, you never know you might discover some items you have completely forgotten about which bring back happy memories and make you smile. While doing this you may also come across some items that you don’t need any more, which you could consider donating to charity which again all helps in making you feel good. Taking a break can re-energise your body and mind for more effective studying or working on that to-do-list!
